First off, I'm not a doctor and I am bad at medical guesses. My first responce would be to go to a doctor and see what he says. More so if there is no reason not to such as financially able to and having medical. If you don't then I would say find a low budget clinic to go to. Now to my guess of what might of happend that you shouldn't take any merit in. First off if the purple and red is from a bruise then you probably have a bruise else you should have it checked if your not getting circulation going through it. If the bump isn't a protruding bone then it might just be swelling of sorts. Now if its just bruising and strains from kicking a wall and that is it then ice packs should help along with ibruprofen for the inflamation if the bumps are from swelling and bengay or a heating pad, resting your foot and such might help. Well go to a doc and hope you feel better. Adios

It sounds silly, but a lot of time if we get a patient with a break that turns purple, it's not broken. It's usually broken if it looks broken but has regular color- lol.
If you did break it- there's not a whole lot that can be done- you can't usually set foot bones. But perhaps they might wrap it, put it in a walking boot and give you crutches.
Put ice on it- 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off, keep it elevated with a pillow. After the first 24 hours, you can put heat on it if it still hurts.
Watch it- if it doesn't get better, you may just want to get it checked out.

you could have broken a toe bone (yeah, they are that long), or you could have chipped or fractured your ankle. Go to the doctor right away, as if there is a loose bit of bone, you do not want it to cut a vein. keep your foot elevated, and put a damp cloth on it (you don't want ice because it would put too much pressure). if you ever think you have injured yourself, go to the hospital. you never know when something could be more serious than you think.

good luck!
