Although Chanel #5 is a good choice, many older women are going for slightly softer, more flower-based scents because they're not as strong (they've really pumped up some of the scents to nearly overwhelming).

My ex-husband's mother and grandmother (around 50 and 70) were extreme fans of the Liz Taylor fragrances (as they should be because they're made for more mature women). White Diamonds, Sparkling Emeralds (I think that's what it's called), etc. Also, of all places, Avon makes a scent that older women seem to be in love with - Far Away. My own mother prefers it above all others and it's very much like the Liz Taylor fragrances, only with a slightly muskier, vanilla undertones.

Perfume For 50 Year Old Woman

Hi, I'm in that age group and I really like herbal fragrances. My favorite is Origins Ginger Souffle. It's a cream, not a perfume but it's highly scented. It was one of Oprah's favorite things. They make a perfume but it's nothing like the souffle and not nearly as good. It's very energizing. I think that it would be wonderful for your vivacious 50 year old. (50 is the new 40!)

Oh, any scent that smells good from Victoria's Secret...and what doesn't smell good from there? Even something like Chanel #5, Taboo, Red, White Diamonds, Lady Stetson...those are cheaper and do not smell as good, but they are classics. Most of the Avon perfumes smell good too....like Goddess, Candice, Sweet Honesty, Dream Life, ect ect. I wouldn't advise using Mary Kay perfumes though, they are way too strong....give a lot of folks headaches.

If she already wears perfume..why not try this. One day, say to her "Wow! What is that wonderful smell? What kind of perfume is that??"...and when she tells you, write it down. The next time you're at a perfume shop (or department store) tell the person behind the counter that you'd like to purchase a new brand of perfume for an older female friend of yours. Tell him/her what your lady friend wears, and ask them for perfume brands that are of the same "style" (light, heavy, musky, floral, citrus..etc) and use your sniffer to pick out one that she may like.

My mother-in-law is about that age and loves "White Diamonds". And she is super picky about smells. Like she can't have scented candles cuz they give her headaches.
