Sane patriotism is not nationalism. Reasonable love and respect for one's place of origin balanced with love and respect of others from other places and one who understands that the best interests of their place is served by justice, prosperity, and peace for all world-wide. It is God bless all humanity on the planet.

Nationalism, on the other hand, is our place, our way above all and at all costs, regardless of the effect on others in other places. It is God bless our place and to hell with the others.

you understand how and more importantly WHY laws are passed...you understand the purpose of the constitution...because you can't align yourself with some idea or philosophy if you don't understand it...that's called blind faith, and it creates false patriots who fly flags but couldn't tell the bill of rights from a Denny's menu...An American patriot understands and sticks to the fundamentles set up by the founding fathers, regardless how unpopular his/her beliefs are in the fleeting contemporary world of fads and paranoia.
