I would honestly say that I am an above average player on the court. I am probably 2 inches shorter than average. I also am able to hit the 3 point shot 40% of the time. Yet when I play pick up games I never get the ball even no matter how open or close to the rim I am because some people think I dont have the demeanor or attitude of a good player. I bout this training program which will give me the vertical leap to outleap defenders and get more rebounds so that when I get more rebounds I can just take the ball for myself and dribble and shoot and be selfish just like what was done to me.

try and annoy your teammates by saying "hoot hoot" until they give you the ball. thats what i used to do. now they can't stop giving me the ball (no homo)

well, training helps of course, improving your own skills will definitely get you some respect when you do get the ball.

of course, your problem seems to be getting the ball to begin with. remember basketball is a team game, there are different ways you can get respect without necessarily getting the ball. teammates notice hard defense, tough rebounding, and all around hustle more than a lot of people realize. also on offense, simply sitting around calling for the ball doesn't help either, being active without the ball, setting picks, making good cuts, those things will get you the ball more. a teammate has no reason to give you the ball if all you do is sit around asking for it.

what sometimes helps me too is i'm vocal, i take charge as a teammate. i make sure people have their guy, i tell people when theyre playing good d or when they made a good shot, i try and get my teammates as fired up as i am on the court. i may or may not play well on a given day, but sometimes the small things or the intangibles makes your teammates respect you more too.

Ok I'm a basketball player too and first of all....look at all the good players like everywhere...none of them come right off and say they're an "above average player" and they don't worry about being selfish. You need to just go out and earn respect so there's like an unspoken respect for you as a player. In pick up games just do what any team player would do...Look to pass if someone's open but your first option is to drive or shoot. Btw, above avg would be above 50% and that's with your 3 pt shot factored in...Good luck.

I saw this on streetball techniques try to hold the bal and if you have a movable hoop put the hoop down as long as you can barley touch it jump up and continue doing that about 10 sets of ten or you can lift up your whole body ising the front part of your feet this help your quads do this for about 10 sets of 20 or 20 sets of ten do this every day I think this might help..

Well if you're planning on being selfish, maybe that's what your teammates sees. It also could mean you DON'T have the attitude of a good player.

So, you think those other guys are jerks and you want to be a jerk too? Try taking the high road.
