I have heard people gripe about the IRS since I was a kid. I have seen bumper sticker that say "Fight organized crime, Abolish the IRS". I have heard people say that the terrorists should have hit the IRS. I have heard that the IRS is the anti-christ. Ron Paul comes out early and says he'd like to make your dreams come true by abolishing this leviathan of corruption and those SAME people call him a loon for saying such a thing. Are Americans retarded or just hypocritical?

Let me clarify: Isn't it ironic that people who bash the IRS also bash a candidate who want's to be rid of it.

You know, America didn't always have such big taxes. In fact, income taxes in general are a very new thing. People are still alive that remember an America without them.

People hate the IRS because the system that it works from is completely lopsided--and as with most bureaucracies, has many loopholes for those that know how to work the system. Those that should be paying the most taxes often pay a fraction of what others do. Look at these people who claim SUV's as a tax deduction because they need it "for work". Corporations get huge tax deductions for lopsided employment (hiring unqualified ex-con's and minorities) and exploiting technicalities in the tax literature. It's very poorly put together, and humans loathe unfairness.

Also--Irony is something unexpected. People being upset about other people taking their money is not unexpected.

people may be bashing the canidate for another reason that they feel is more important than their annoyance with the irs. you have to understand that every government is currupt in some way and the american government is no exception to the rule, they just keep it a little less obvious to many people. as for myself i would like some sort of revolution to take place due to my own frustration with the government in general but no one realy listens to me, untill its too late anyway. i guess i dont have the glammour to catch enough people's attention to make a huge change like a revolution, but dont worry someone will come along and make a change, i think its a sword in the stone type of thing, america just needs an Arthur.

he also wants to abolish the fbi and basically anything else governmental related also. The key is to balance power the people have and power the government has. too much of either and we are in big trouble. that's why i don't support ron paul, or any other candidate who is too far extreme either way.

Someone tell us what it cost the IRS to collect a dollar in taxes. I've heard up to 70 cents and if that is true, they it's time for a change. It is outdated and if not mistaken, a democrat president started it!!!!!!!!!!!! Take care.

You are so right!! It goes to show you how gullible people can be even when the truth is staring them in the face. I remember earlier this year when the "Iowans for Tax Relief" wouldn't invite to their forum a man who is offering to remove tax altogether! Go figure. Did you know when the slaves were freed, many prefered to still be told what to do by a master?

People don't think that Ron Paul is a "loon" because he wants to abolish the IRS. They call him a loon because he:

Voted NO on renewal of the Patriot Act.
Voted NO on a constitutional amendment to ban desecration of the American flag.
Voted NO on requiring federal employees to take drug tests.
And he wants to legalize illegal drug use.

No, they are sensible. They realize that no way in holy hell, no way even if the Sun burns out, is a US congress going to vote on a bill to abolish the IRS, not now, not in 10 years, not in 100 years.

it's just another cockamammy idea from Ron Paul, who, if elected, will spend his time building model airplanes in the Oval Office, because nothing he says will ever be listened to or acted upon by a rational legislature.

Most of us who don't like Ron Paul have other issues with him that are more important than his advocation of the elimination of the IRS by passing the Fair Tax. Don't try to tell us that if we agree with Paul on one issue we should support him. I believe Paul would not defend America as aggressively as I want to see America defended. If we live, we can debate taxes later...

When people think of change they always expect the worst especially when it comes from the government. Even tho the fed is the biggest scam around and should be abolished. It doesn't help that media is sprending their propaganda against it.

Wow. That is so like rain on your wedding day.

Not.

It's like the man who complains about the red lights he hits on his way to work. Every time he curses them, he stops to think, "It could be worse. The lights could stop working, and then I'd never get to work."

Americans like to complain; but they're smart enough to know when to shut up. Well, usually.
