My boyfriend and I started a business together 1 year ago- neither one of us is employed outside the business and I am very much aware that it takes time for a business to be sucessful. (Certainly longer 1 year) we've made some money BUT it takes everything we make to pay the bills. We were doing all right & keeping up & we reduced ALL OUR personal expenses (down to JUST the bare minimum-and i do mean minumim-less than $50 on groceries-(2 people for 2 weeks). and well we had 1 really slow month and we've been playing "catch up every since" . I've done everything including seeking outside work and have landed another job (but it doesn't start until 1/08. It won't pay alot but it's (1) i can do and not require me be absent from my current business.
He's wanting to "stock" the store more & fix his truck & has "big plans" but I'm selling everything i can as cheap as I can and "barely making anything" on the product--just to attempt to catch up ANY ADVISE will be helpful PLEASE HELP

Also any ideas of any on-line oppurtunities to make EXTRA $$$ with NO START-UP FEES or NO GET RICH QUICK SCHEME would also be helpful. I m not all that experienced at computer work- but I'm a very hard worker and generally learn quickly... Any ideas or suggestions are helpful.
Selling on e-bay ...it helps.. but the fees are killing me as well.

I am a business student at Kennesaw State University in Georgia and was looking at business questions and came across yours and though I might be able to help you out. Have you tried looking into other ways of getting working capital to help you through to your next job and even better, grow the business? I work for a company that helps out a lot of small business owners that are in your situation. It has helped so many business owners get the money they need to grow and just get by until they start to pick up. Though, you'd have to take Visa and Mastercard as a payment source and actually have a physical location that you are either leasing or own. If you do take V/MC you would have to make at least 4,000 a month on average. If you do qualify we could advance you some working capital into you business checkings account in 5 to 7 days. You could use the money for anything....rent, inventory, christmas presents, groceries! If you want to find out some more about the company I work for go to www.smartfundingchoice.com. You'll see our phone number and then just ask for Briana (that's me) and i'll answer anything you want to know! :o) Good luck to you...I know running a business these days can get rough sometimes! Take care.

I don't know what your product or service is but I do know there are two things that make you an idiot in business. One is if the public is clamboring for a product/service you can provide and won't. The other is if you're trying to jam something down their throat that they don't want. I owned two restaurants over the last 20 years. We failed to see the handwriting on the wall and hung around two years longer than was prudent, partly because we lacked opportunity and partly because there were more than just our mouths to feed. In the second case, with the memory of the first still stinging, we pulled the plug after 2 bad months. If you see the writing I speak of, my advice is don't let your altruistic plans or ego keep you from getting out while the getting is good.

You may not be realistic about the true market value of whatever it is you're selling. He has grandiose plans but no real indication that there's a demand, and you're willing to sell your goods for anything, with no consideration for profit. Take a course from the small business bureau or something.

A lot of people have been in your shoes. It's not easy to be in business for yourself and most people barely eke out a living at it. You may grow tired of it and of not having any benefits, etc. Not to be negative, but realistic. Very best to you.
