I am surrounded by children in my neighborhood ( none of my own yet), and most of them are in-law relatives. I love them, but hate when they wanna come over and hang out. There's nothing here like toys for them and I have no idea how to entertain them. Plus I absolutely hate "drop-ins". And they never call first (they're kids, right?). What do I say, or do? They came to my porch for Halloween. My light was off, the door to the porch was hooked (they crawled under the screen), and then went home complaining that I gave them the same candy I paid $2 for when they were doing their fundraiser. That's all I had, and was the reason I left the light off! We don't have a sidewalk, so I was not expecting any kids, and this is the 1st year I lived with my husband, whose been here for years. I feel bad...but geez.

If you plan to have kids of your own, you're going to need a whole lot of patience than that. Kids behave that way, its up to the adults to adjust to them.

You should try to lighten up a little. If you really don't want them over just hanging out, tell them the truth. Say, I love you guys but this is not a hang out. But here take some cookies with you and say hello to .......fill in the blank. But definitely make sure you have candy on Halloween! That's one day you want to go all out for the kids you "love".

I'm not sure what you're asking. It's probably you. Just tell their parents to keep the little trolls away from your house.
