12th December 2007

Pope Benedict XVI has launched a surprise attack on climate change prophets of doom, warning them that any solutions to global warming must be based on firm evidence and not on dubious ideology.

The leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics suggested that fears over man-made emissions melting the ice caps and causing a wave of unprecedented disasters were nothing more than scare-mongering.

I would remind respondents that the Pope is refered to as "Pope Benedict" or "His Holiness". "Ratzy" just doesn't cut it.

The Pope is right on. God calls us to be good stewards of the earth, NOT to worship it! God is my Father; the earth is NOT my mother, but merely my home.

Yes, I remember the 80's doomsday mantra of the upcoming ice age. They taught us that our big hair do's were responsible because of the CFL's we were pumping into the atmosphere, causing the hole in the ozone layer. They've since discovered that all the AquaNet in America had nothing to do with it-- it is cyclical. History will prove that the one or two degree change in some places of the world are the same--cyclical. Twenty years from now the ice caps will once again grow and the cycle will reverse...and so will our paranoia.

That being said, I teach my kids to recycle when ever feasible, not to waste ANYTHING when avoidable (you wouldn't believe the amount of waste in a public school, where they indoctrinate our kids with this global warming stuff!), to turn off water, lights, and electronics, and never to litter. This is not only beneficial to our surroundings, but to our wallet! We cut our 6-pack pop holders apart so seagulls that poop on our cars won't find them and strangle themselves, so they may live to poop on my brand new pickup another day (and I have to waste water to wash it!). In other words, I am teaching my kids to be good stewards of the earth. I AM NOT teaching them to get their tubes tied and/or have abortions in order to decrease our family's "carbon footprint" as some are now advocating. When we put rocks, plants and slugs above human life, there is something seriously wrong with our society.

I have a feeling that the steps I take somehow beat Algore's when it comes to being a good steward of the gift of this planet that God has bestowed upon us...for I have no private jet.

To answer your question;

It appears to be setting up to be a confrontation of the ages.

On the one hand you have Pope Benedict XVI head of the Catholic church with the word of God via the "Bible."

On the other hand you have Al Gore, prophet of the environmentalist cult with the word of Darwin via an "Inconvenient Truth."

It all comes down to what you believe in. Armageddon, or the end of the world in 2012 via global warming. We shall all find out on Jan. 01, 2013.

No.

The Pope is simply encouraging international dialog based on good science and cautioning against ultimatums based on dubious science.

If you read the article the Pope says that to further the cause of world peace it was sensible for nations to "choose the path of dialogue rather than the path of unilateral decisions" in how to cooperate responsibly on conserving the planet.

With love in Christ.

Thanks for the link. That's awesome!

Not RC myself, far from it, but the Pope carries some weight with a lot of people and that he is asking for wise action rather than emotional knee-jerking is bound to make a difference!

This is my favorite part: "The 80-year-old Pope said the world needed to care for the environment but not to the point where the welfare of animals and plants was given a greater priority than that of mankind."

Will Al put up his dukes? I don't think so. And if he does say anything counter it will be so cloaked in PC-ganda, that it won't be "real" match.

lol at the pope talking about 'dubious ideology'. Isn't his whole religion based on that?

To hell with Al Gore. His Nobel Prize can't save him from real justice...

There won't be any confrontation since the Pope worships Jesus Christ while Al Gore worships Liberalism.

isn't Ratzinger a creationist? dubious ideology indeed! they should duke it out. i'm pretty sure Ratzinger is a Lich. this epic confrontation would cause him to reveal his true form. Liches can be pretty nasty. Gore would need to find his secret Lich lair.

i wouldn't put any money on Al Gore defeating a Lich in mortal combat though.
