I bought a black moore goldfish and fiddler crab to put on my new 10 gallon tank, I left like 3 inches of water out and have a ladder for her to stand on, but she can't figure out the ladder and keeps climbing up the silicon seals, I am scared she''l escape out the hole around the filter. I have never owned a fiddler crab before and the lady at the pet store was being mean to me and only told me they needed to be out of the water sometimes... What do I do?

Well, The ladder I have is plastic, it reaches from the bottom of the tank to about an inch from the top, so there is 2 inches up and down for her to hang out and maybe 6 inches side to side, I know that isn't much, but that's the best I can come up with right this minute until I get to go back to the store (not the same one) There are 5 plants, 3 of which almost come out of the water from where it is so shallow, she can sit on those if she wanted, but She just keeps climbing the silicon near the filter.

Well, the woman didn't mention any of this, I am actually more worried FOR the goldfish right now than about him, he is only an inch or so long, so the crab waves her claws at him when he swims near, but she hasn't grabbed him yet, I don't know what to do about this, I hate that stupid old lady, she kept telling me my fish warrenty was going to be voided because I had a molly in the tank I WAS going to put the goldfish in, it is only a half inch long and she kept harping about it would pluck the moores eyes out and If I wanted to waste my money that wasn't her fault and the 7 day guarantee was voided and everything...

You're right to be worried because these can be escape artists. Does your tank have a light with a lid that covers most of the top? If not, you can make a cheap top with a piece of plexiglass or some plastic canvas from a craft store. Just cut out the area around the filter.

What is the ladder made of? A rough surface like a rock or driftwood is easier for them to get a clawhold on, so they might be more willing to climb these.

Overall, I wouldn't consider the crab and a goldfish a good combination. Fiddlers should have some marine salt in their water, and when it molts, it will need to have some rocks to hide in - the exoskeleton is soft at this time, and your goldfish may have a crab dinner.

If you could get another tank to keep the fiddler separately, that might be best. You could use an airstone or submersible filter, then put a lid over the entire tank to keep it inside, and also give it the salt it should have.

For crabs you only want about 8 inches of water with big aquarium ornaments that come out of the water so they can climb up

Im not sure about fiddler crabs but most crabs dont NEED access to the air, its just better for them and will keep them alive longer. Fiddler crabs are often sold as freshwater fish too but are better in brackish water

I wouldnt really want to keep them with goldfish because goldfish create a lot of waste. If you have a really good filter it shouldnt be a problem

How big is teh goldfish compared to the crab? #It shouldnt really be a problem but it could be. I had a red clawed crayfish (cherax something) and first i had him in my tropical tank. He decided thaty he liked eating zebra danios, but only the back half so when i checked one moring i was surprised to see about 4 heads in the bottom of my tank.

After this, i decided to move him into a bowl with a few goldfish and i never had a problem with this until he scutteled up the airline and escaped from the tank. This is the only thing i can think of as i havent seen him since and this was last year lol. Have search everywhere

My aunt had a fiddler crab and he climbed up the rock into her waterfall filter and he never jumped out of it he just sat up there but your usually not supposed to put them with anything because she had her fiddler crab with a blue lobster and he ate it.
