I think MTV started out as a real innovation, but has devolved into a spectacle. Where are the videos? They come on between 4 and 8 in the morning, then it's back to more 'reality' shows (which are very few people's reality).
How sad. I was 9 when MTV started, and I couldn't get enough of it. Now, I can't stand it.

I really think MTV has bombed itself from what it was originally supposed to be when it first came out. They had 'Beavis and Butthead' and many many more music videos. TRL was when MTV really started heading downhill with all the 5 second fragments of popular songs they have on now. And you can't even hear what they're singing cuz they have the screaming girls to drown out the music.
Then there's the "reality" shows that have nothing but drama. Which is what society want I guess but the network completely went the opposite way of when they first came on the air.
It's sad.

MTV has "jumped the shark", so to speak! I mean the name stands for Music Television, but they haven't played music in a decade or so! TRL, the only time videos are shown, is not on as often now. I cannot understand why they show repeats of ANTM, and that Sweet 16 show drives me crazy!

MTV is poopy. When MTV hit the airwaves, that was pretty much the parasite digging in to kill music. It has since died and been replaced entirely by the corporate parasite doppelganger of music that thrives on teeny-bopper allowance and birthday money. When Nirvana came out with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in the early 90's, there was a brief period where life seemed to be returning -- like a defibrillator, and there was a heartbeat... but it was a false alarm. The heartbeat turned out to be the infectious rhythm of the Macarena, and despite his success, or maybe because of it, Kurt Cobain was dead. Now we have Disney soldiers making the music.

mtv has gotten to predictable....me personally i dont want to see how a child direspects there parent because they got the wrong color of there mercedes or there dress doesnt fit right (my sweet 16) i mean you should spend that much money on ur wedding not a b-day party. made is ok because its not biased. It shows u both sides of a problem. yea on the weekends they give to much repeats of ANTM...trl is whack...lol...i like VH1. there shows are sooo funny. for instance my best week ever shows every friday are hilarious. VH1 reality shows are more entertaining (i.e. I LOVE NY and flavor of love) the only thing i watch mtv for is the video in the morning

MTV-Music Television. Uh, when it first came out it was. I watched "Video Killed the Radio star" by the buggles. The first video on MTV. That was back when all they played were videos. And, concerts. Of course the music reporting was cool back then. But now, it's a shell of it's true meaning.

Super This, Made That, Top Whatever... I think it's a sad reflection on what has become of Teenage American Society today.... worse yet, an impetus. Yes, What happened to music videos on television? They realized trainwrecks and excess catches attention more than what they were originally created for, and sold out to indulge in any and all of it... at the expense of the American Teen Psyche.

I totally agree!!! I miss the time when MTV was mostly music videos, kind of what Music TV should be!!! Not a bunch of stupid shows that have very little to do with music.

MTV is for MT minds.
Note: they still show music videos on one of their sister stations -- I think it's MTV2. The music videos will give you slightly more stimulus than a reality show, but slightly less than watching paint dry.
