People in Congress have some of the best health care and retirement packages of any workers in the nation. Why would they take that away from themselves?
On the other hand, if we made them live with social security and medicare, maybe they would fix the system.

From what I do understand is that the government workers do not get paid that well at all, but receive compensation through retirement and health care instead as an incentive.
Our friend who is a CHP in CA., is near retirement, lets say that he makes $ 50 k a yr. which is not much at all considering the cost of living in CA.,and the intense stress.
What he does get is a great medical plan for him and the family and a great retirement package that will pay out the same as what he is making now.
So $ 50 k a year for retirement is not to shab in the end but you have to put in so many years.

Because more than politicians are covered government worker benefits. Any full-time employee working for the federal government is eligible for health benefits. Would you take away from millions of Americans just to teach those that can afford private health care a lesson?
Also, federal gov't employees still have to pay a portion of their own health care coverage just as one would working in the private sector.

Why single out Republicans? Which Democrats are advocating less benefits? They, for one, want everybody to pay for everyone else's costs, not just the government officials...
By the way, Ron Paul has spoken out passionately about how public service is so lucrative. He's offered up a lot of solutions, and although I won't vote for Paul, I have to give him credit.

Government employees get benefits at their job just like millions of other employees do from their places of employment. Why shouldn't they? People without coverage tend to choose jobs without benefits and it is not my responsibility to pay for them--especially if they are under achievers who won't work!
