It depends on whether you want to use your computer AS a TV, which can take live streaming television broadcasts and flip through channels, or download seasons and episodes from a program like iTunes. Look for 'PC TV Tuners' which may or may not have to be installed to your motherboard, but for a Mac, you'll want to get a device called EyeTV, which you just plug into a port on your Mac, then attach your cable line to the EyeTV.

Hi. Buy an inexpensive TV tuner card. I have an ATI TV Wonder VE, cost about $40, and connects to any cable. Works great. Some examples http://www.amazon.com/s/102-9078896-2358558?ie=UTF8&keywords=ATI%20TV%20Wonder&search-type=ss&index=electronics

You can watch TV on the computer if you go to the network website. For example, you can watch shows from NBC from nbc.com or ABC shows on abc.com. They all have different video players but it's all integrated into the browser. I do this all the time. It's great because you can watch it on your time.
