ford makes a mechanics dream come true. taurus, and its sister car, the merc sable are pure junk. i work at a wrecking yard, and there are more of these cars than any other. the heater core you had replaced was a bargain, because by the book time, this is an 8 hr job, most times involving removing the whole dashboard! the core shouldn't have leaked so soon. as for the a/c system, it was most likely discharged to remove some of its components to get at the buried heater core...i doubt he recharged it, and if he did, it may have been put back together with old seals or o rings. find someone who will "bypass the heater system, and the car will drive fine. you can do this by joining the inlet and return lines going to the heater core.

you problem lies between a bad thermostat thats stuck open so it never gives the coolant time to heat up before it runs through the heater core, or you radiator is really dirty and so is the coolant and it need to be flushed. I would start with the thermostat its cheap like 10.00. start that first. I know for sure those are the only 2 other things that it could be.

Where u sure it was just the heater core that was at fault. Sometimes if the Theremostat has a problem it starts to stick and will not allow the hot water to flow like it should. It's not very much for one if u wanted to try that.

Your anti freeze is probably old and needs to be changed. If you are in very cold weather and your anti freeze is around four years old--have it tested--if it's weak your auto mechanic will advise you if it needs to be changed. If you still do not get any heat check your thermostat. good luck
