People tend to have positions similar to those of their parents. People that have abortions tend to have fewer children than those that oppose abortion. If you accept these two statements, you must conclude future generations tend have a greater percentage of people that oppose abortion than earlier generations. By my math, opposition to abortion naturally increases over time.

This is obviously an American Q despite being in UK and Ireland answers only. Regardless, here is a response from a Brit. Abortion should never be seen or used as a method of birth control, there is more sex education and birth control advice out there than ever before, yet unwanted pregnancies continue to rise. Why is this? Could it be that our welfare systems help and promote single mothers too much? .Has our pursuit of equality and independence destroyed traditional "family values"? Have we cultivated the "you can have it all"attitude too far? Have we denigrated the role of the Father so much that he is seen as an appendage? My answer to all of the above is yes, in all cases. However, no child should ever be unwanted, good motherhood is the most difficult job in the world. How much harder when the child is both unexpected and unwanted? All well and good to say "give the child to a couple who are desperate to adopt" but no matter how hard they may try, the child still feels abandoned by it's birth Mother. The Mother may end up with a lifetime of "what ifs" and guilt. Abortion is not accepted lightly by the majority, it is often one of the hardest decisions they will ever have to make. Do not take that right away from them, remember what happened to women prior to the abortion laws. Many died using life threatening home remedies, many more succumbed to unprofessional practioners. The first rights of a child in my opinion is to be expected, wanted and loved. Do you as an individual remember your feelings, thoughts, as an embryo or a foetus?I thought not...Remove religion and scriptures, look at the humanitarian aspect, let us return to teaching our young that sex = children. It is what the human was designed for, you have sex then children are the result, not a lifetime of benefits, not glorification, not acceptance, but hardship and a life commitment We are all entitled to one mistake, we are all human after all, but more than one strike then you are out!

As the understanding of the pro life community improves, they will all become pro choice. It is a proven fact that a person that is pro life causes the death of more humans than a person that is pro choice.

This will always be a political tool used to sway votes. If anything, Roe v Wade will be reformed to not include abortion after a certain period of growth. Abortions will never be illegal.
