I think at one point they did kind of represent the country. The point I'm thinking of is during the middle of the 20th century. I really think the primaries should start in states that are across the country like an east coast state, a west coast state, a southern state, a northern state, and a state in the middle of the country. That would probably be a lot more representative of our country as a whole.

They aren't GIVEN the advantage, they have taken it. Each state decides when it will hold primary elections. But I'm not sure it's an advantage to be early. The circumstances often change closer to convention time, and it's very possible the vote would have been significantly different if they'd waited awhile.

I don't know what component demographics play, or should play, but I do agree that it is absurd how much power is given these early states. Minnesota does benefit, but we shouldn't. Heaven forbid a candidate say something negative about ethanol. IMO, there should be a massive primary/ causcus day.

I absolutely do think that there should be such a federal law...

in what way is it an advantage for the state??do you think it should be federal law that they hold them all on the same day?I live in New hampshire and our state law says we must hold the primaries a number of days before whoever is second ,i think its like 13 days..

Kind of funny, you are taking a slant with the way your question is written, but you shouldn't!! Obama is from IL, right next door. He is doing extremely well in IA, and your bitchin about it?? Honestly, I think because he has done well there, it has fueled the rest of his campaign. I'm white, military, and from IL, and I would vote for him ANYDAY over hillary.

are you saying that it is unfair because those states are made up of white people?
some white people like the black canadate, others don't.
it has to do with their views, NOT their race.
grow up.
