Well, I'd like to think that no one gets married with the ultimate goal of getting divorced. If that was the case no one would do it. Anyone who has been through a divorce knows that its hell and its toll on you, you friends and family is extreme. Ultimately though the stats speak for themselves.. divorce is a big part of our society and it hits a high percentage of marriages. I've been through a divorce and have seen it hit friends too, its tough.

I think, a realistic goal is to give it your best shot while being prepared for all kinds of possibilities. You have a great deal of control over improving your odds.

No... it's not a realistic goal. People grow...and people change. If you can grow and change together, then you have a fairly successful marriage. Personally, I don't find divorce a "shame"... Sometimes when we are young, we pick our mates because of who we are at that point in our lives. It's hard to keep a marriage working... it takes great effort. Never take a marriage for granted... because if you do, then it becomes a "statistic".

It should be the only goal! Divorce is just the quick and easy way out of a tough situation. Marriages are hard work, no matter who you are. No one should sell out on themselves or the person they are married to so easily.

I think it is very realistic.
Divorce is the easy way out, tough times come and go, Love does not.

I don't think you can plan not too. Unexpected things happen in life and doesn't mean we are failures. Of course it should be thought of going into marriage to be together for ever and try hard to keep it that way.

Strange question. Never get married unless you expect it to last a lifetime. Agreed it often does not.
