They are two very different performers.
RVD is a more flexible wrestler and an aerial specialist with a lot of American wrestling flare to his style. He puts on good matches but sometimes can fall into spot after spot without developing a good psychology for the match. Even in this way he is really over with the fans. People have loved him ever since he was in ECW and Paul Heyman built him up into Mr. Monday Night. I am more interested in seeing in WWE in the spotlight again as his tenure was cut short by his problems outside the ring. That being said we also have to consider him as a person that is not dependable to carry the company. He got busted with marijuana while he was WWE and ECW champion, and that is careless.
Edge on the hand is a very solid performer who has been with the company for a long time, he proved himself as a tag team wrestler and as a singles wrestler. He has gained a lot of confidence on the mic and he rocketed to stardom with his Matt/Lita angle, but this is also one of my main problems with him, he used his personal life to his professional gain. You could still argue that his rise to the main event was a matter of when and not if. He had his run with the WWE title and he was extremely popular and drew ratings for the company. But when he got his chance with the WHC he got injured, so case can't be made for him on dependability neither.
So to me they both have their faults and their attributes, they are both unique performers with stand out looks, so I would choose them both.

RVD he's probably one of the best high-fliers and even though Edge is good at Ladder Matches he's not as creative with it as RVD, so yeah i would say RVD.

Edge is a good wrestler and an overall great as a heel or face (esp as a heel) but he can't totally compare to RVD. Even as a heel, the crowd always went wild over him. He's very charismatic and phenomenal in the ring when it comes to skills. I'm going to be different and say...
Rob Van Dam!!!
