I think if the owner takes the time to put them on neatly and evenly spaced, it's very festive. I think it's just fine to be a little tacky for the holidays.
I would be sad durring the holidays if people stopped decorating their homes. It helps put ME in the Christmas spirit!
I say go all out but just try to put them up evenly and well spaced so none of them are drooping.

Oh, it's Christmas!
If a person took the time (and expense) to set out some Christmas lights I'm gonna take it that they did it to spread the spirit of the season and just enjoy the show.
Christmas is really for little kids and I know they enjoy seeing the lights, whether I consider some tacky or not!
Sort of "eye of the beholder" type deal, don't you think?

Christmas lights are not tacky all over your house unless the yard is covered in lights that dont look good.

being a delivery driver for a kebab house I am out in the evenings. some of the sights I see are, well, laughable. there are a few houses that are so covered in lights that its like driving towards a car with full beams on!!! there is one that has a charity box and collected loads of money last year. I must say though that the majority of houses round here with lights are done tastefully and actually do look really nice. you can always tell the houses with children

Very Tacky, why must we all look like the American film, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? It's hardly a British tradition, is it? I just put lights on our fir tree in the garden at Greybeard Towers, very tasteful!

some are tacky! but if you do it right, it looks good! My house is decked out in lights and other stuff.. and it looks good! everyone keeps stopping by and looks at it <3

I hate cold weather -- that's how it is over here -- Xmas and all the acoutrements (lites, trees, whatever) make it enjoyable -- I love it -- I don't care if it is tacky or not (also enjoy seeing Channukah displays in windows.)

It has a thin line when it becomes tacky.When the whole house is covered in lights then the lawn has decorations.That's a little too much.Then it all depends on how that house has decorated it also
