When you are school focus on school and don't think (too much) about your child, do the job at hand.

When you are at home and especially when you first arrive home give the child some of your best undivided attention.

Children are very flexible and do understand that adults have to do certain things. As long as you give your child love and attention and tell the child what you are doing and why he/she will understand (at some level.)

My children don't remember a time when I was not in school I went at night at first and stayed home with them during the day. When they got older (one is special needs) I got a scholarship and went full time but was still at home quite a bit. Now I am in graduate school and have a final tomorrow (this is my way to relax...lol by spreading my hard-earned wisdom or trying to help others.) Just consistently reevaluate if any changes are needed. Children do adapt and do fine. Your child will learn the value of education from you.

Organization will be key. Do you have any family members who can help you? And how old is your child? That makes a difference.

Some general comments, from personal experience:

Excellent child care services will make a huge difference. If your child is happy there, then you will be able to focus on work.

When I went back to school with two young children I planned one all-nighter a week - I studied and worked on assignments all night every Tuesday night because Wednesday was my lightest day.

You may find some support among people in your classes. Seek out study groups of other serious and mature students from each of your classes so that you can all share the work load and learn from each other.

Be very focused. When you are at school, make use of every minute. Get as much as possible done while at school.

Cook on the weekends and freeze food in meal sizes for use during the week.

I hope these thoughts are of some help. Best of luck with your plans.

affect, not effect. Sorry that's just a personal pet peeve of mine. I would see if the college offers any online courses that can help you out without having to be away from home too much. In the end it will be beneficial to your child, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Yeah, they won't like being left for long, but it'll only be for awhile, and then you'll be making more money and it'll be the best for your kid. And that's really what's important. So, I would do my best at the college so you can get through it as quick as possible, and come home. My fiance is planning on going to a university four hours away, since it's the closest one that offers the major he wants, and we know that that's still going to be happening when we have kids, so we're considering just moving down there. Sometimes, that can be the best option too. But either way, the end result is the best for your child. Good job.

Take all the classes on two days as many semesters as possible; to accomplish this you will need to be very well-organized and have support such as day care, etc. You will need to study at night probably, so set up an area that is yours--no kids, friends, etc. allowed in the area. I would start with two classes and work up from there, since I assume you will be working as well.
