This might be a little bit unsettling sounding to some of you out there, but lets try to be mature! We're all ladies after all!

I notice that during my period, there seem to be what I assume are clots, anyhow, they are little solid bits of something.

Should I be concerned or is this something that all women experience and that I was just never told about.

As a side note, I'm anemic.

This is very normal. The lining of the uterus sheds, sometimes, large clots will come out. Sometimes, it has to do with our hormones, and, believe it or not, which side you period is coming from..we have left and right sided periods. Ever notice that sometimes you get that sharp pain on one or the other side? Well, that is the egg dropping from that side. Clots are completely normal. Being anemic, you need to be careful about your iron, and take supplements. If you notice you are having heavier than normal periods, call your gyno and ask to be seen. You can't afford to loose to much blood. While this is old blood..you still cannot take the chance over bleeding to much, which can exasperate your anemia.

Those 'clots' are just that ... blood clots ... and that is TOTALLY NORMAL for every woman (past puberty) ... the 'blood' you 'lose' during your period is actually 'shed' during the time BEFORE you ovulate, and it begins to 'clot' so it's easier to 'get rid of it' if you don't get pregnant around the time of your ovulation. The female body is an AMAZING thing, because we 'make a bed' for that 'fetus' EVERY MONTH and shed it and start making a 'new bed' the next month JUST so we can 'build a baby' inside us. And believe it or not, WOMEN can stand FAR MORE PAIN than a man because of this 'reproductive miracle' ... and if you are anemic, you should start taking a good multivitamin with iron in it, because you may want to have babies someday, and that 'monthly bleeding' you are doing now can 'drain' your body of the iron you'll need to 'do a good job' when the time to 'be pregnant' comes.

Yes it is normal. However if these clots become very large you should discuss it with your doctor. I am anemic also. Take an iron supplement if you are not already. Before I started taking Iron I literally stayed in bed during my period and a few days after to recoop. Was just awful. Helps make the periods lighter now for me to.

Now I'm a guy but I've seen this with my gf and she told me it was normal shes also a peer provider for a parent planning clinic.
When you have your period it because your body is flushing out a lining inside your body, this lining is what a fertilized egg will attach itself to and become a baby. Well once a month the lining gets weak or old and you have your period that flushes out the egg and this lining so your body can produce a new one. Also i think its more thicker when you're on some kind of birth control but I'm not positive

I too am anemic and have very big clots come out during that time of the month. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, but if it continues to bother you or concern you, I suggest you see your doctor.

I have this too. I am not sure if it is something that everyone gets...because not everyone has a steady or heavy flow. But I think it is just something that happens when the lining is coming off of the uterus. I have been told not to worry unless the clots are larger than a ping-pong ball.

It has nothing to do with being anemic, and it's normal.
It's not neccessarily blood clots, but just small groupings of blood that's a bit thicker then usual. If it were actual blood clots, which are VERY tiny, I'd worry.

Yes it's normal.
And about being anemic, you should go to a doctor, because it can get pretty serious.

I had that on my last period and I didn't know what to do. I'm assuming it's OK though because blood has platelets which clot naturally.
