Try the ice first, You can even buy a areosol product for wax and chewing gum. I know schools have this problem....Worst case - put single sheets of newspaper over the area and try using a clothes iron...to absorb the wax...Btw, carpet layers can patch some carpet like plush for example. Its common with cigarette burns...Good Luck
Cheers

The only way I know how is to take a plain piece of paper and set it over the wax and iron it. Continue with clean paper until it it completely soaked up. (iron on low setting) Do not iron the carpet directly. This really works.

Get some liquid air (the kind you use to blow off computer and electrical equipment) , spray on the wax(freeze) and scrape the hard wax off. Next, use the iron method as describe then repeat with the liquid air.

Freeze it with ice in a plastic bag.
Most will come out in pieces. Any remains you may have to carefully pick.
Do not RUB the pile. It will become frayed with the tips of yarn frizzy.
