what does no authentication credentials were provided request mean?

I am trying to log in to blackboard and my normal password does'nt work. I am getting this information above.

Were you supposed to proved "authentications credentials", when you joined "blackboard"??. (I have no idea what "blackboard is).

Example, I take continuing educations from a medical university with subject related to my field as a clincial psychiatrist. I had to provide my Lic., and all other credentials for the university authentication, before they would give me a special code an I choose a usuer name, to enter into their server to take free courses.

Best I can do to describe what "authentications credentials", means.
