Well, viruses can live pretty much anywhere, as I understand.

One type of pathogenic germ that can live on counters if not killed is salmonella from meat. And there are many, many others.

This is a very broad question!

The short answer is that generally the surfaces in the home can harbor ANY bacteria or virus that is on your shoes, on your hands, etc. The long answer very much depends on how fastidious you are after you cut up the raw chicken or beef on the kitchen countertop. See citations 1 and 2 below. Handwashing after toileting, every time, will keep the bacteria and viruses that live in poop out of the environment.

Also, since you use the term "germ" you may be referring to viruses as well, again, their presence on household surfaces depends on habits. Some viruses are pretty hardy in the environment, while others are more fragile. Good habits like sneezing or coughing into your sleeve rather than into your hands, (and of course, lots of handwashing) can keep the viruses from spreading.

All kinds of yucks that will make you sick. The best thing to do is to wash your hands often and clean you counter and floor with a bleach and water solution.
