3x+5y=2
x+4y= -4

I've solved all my other problems, but this one is giving me trouble. I must find x and y (the problems are the same; x and y equal the same in both problem.

Please help?

3x + 5y = 2
- 3x - 12y = 12--------ADD

- 7y = 14
y = - 2

x - 8 = - 4
x = 4

x = 4 , y = - 2

3x+5y=2
x+4y= -4

multiply bottom equation by negative 3:
3x+5y=2
-3x-12y= 12

add two equations together:

-7y = 14
y = -2

plug y = -2 into one of the original equations:

x - 8 = -4
x = 4

y= -2
x = 4

3x + 5y = 2 (1)
x + 4y = -4 (2)

(2) is the same as:
3x + 12y = -12

The above equation minus equation (1):
7y = -14
y = -2

Substitute y value into equation (1):
3x - 10 = 2
3x = 12
x = 4

Check x value in equation (2):
4 - 8 = -4

Values are correct:
x = 4
y = -2

x+4y= -4 Solve for X
x = - 4y - 4

3x+5y=2 Now replace x in the other equation:

3(-4y - 4) + 5y = 2 Solve for y
-12y - 12 + 5y - 2 = 0
-7y - 14 = 0
-7y = 14
y = -2

x+4y= -4 Now that we know y solve for x in either equation
x + 4(-2) = -4
x = -4 - 4(-2)
x = - 4 + 8
x = 4

x = -4y -4

3(-4y-4) + 5y = 2
-12y -12 + 5y = 2
-7y = 14
y = -2

x = -4(-2) -4
x = 8 - 4
x = 4

3x+5y=2
x+4y= -4

multiply the 2nd equation with 3
(x+4y= -4)*3
3x+12y=-12

now subract the equations

3x+12y=-12
3x+5y=2
------------------------
0x+7y=-14
7y=-14
y=-14/7
y=-2

now substute the value of y in equation 2
x+4y=-4
x+4*(-2)=-4
x-8=-4
x=-4+8
x=4

check
substute the value of x & y in equation 1
3x+5y=2
3*4+5*-2
12-10
2

so it is right

Add the two equation together, and you get 4x + 9y = (-2)

Then, solve for each.

4x/4+9y=(-2)/4
x+9y=(-0.5)

x+9y/9=(0.5)/9

x+y=(-9.5

Then, use numbers that add up to (-9.5), and substitute them in your problem.
