Sexual reproduction allows for more genetic variability whereas asexual reproduction pretty much produces clones. With sexual reproduction the variety of genotypes/phenotypes produced means that one or more will likely have an advantage when the environment changes. these offspring with genetic advantages will be more likely to live and produce more offspring with this same genetic advantage

Sexual reproduction increases the chances of genetic mutations, for both good and bad mutations. New mutations will also occur during chromosome and gene crossover at fertilisation. The bad mutations will result in early death, the good mutations will survive. If these good mutations increase the chances of survival in a hostile (changing) environment they will increase in the population.
Asexual reproduction results in less mutation, simply because there is not the opportunity for new mutations during gene rearrangement.
