How do you polish a rock without a rock tumbler?

you can use a file and it will scrape off the outside dirty rock and a new layer of cleaner rock will be the outcome

Place it on the beach and come back in 500 years, or just rub it really hard for maybe a year or so, or get a car tire, fill it with sand and water, and roll it until the rock is polished.

Clear nail polish will work if you have a nicely cleaned rock.

It has always worked for me.

You have to find a way to prop it so only do one side at a time.

It will dry within a half an hour

Then just flip it and do the other side.

NEVER use a rock tumbler to clean or polish a fossil! As far as that goes, NEVER polish a fossil!!! Polishing would destroy any possible value it has.

You can try emery cloth. Its designed for metals but it may work.
