Hehe. I don't know if this ever got answered officially. (I don't think it has because I wanted to know also!)

My guess would be his family, especially his sister.

No...I think J.K. Rowling later said it was his family reunited and forgiving him (possibly with a *good* Grindelwald in the background, but the author didn't say that).

I think he saw, just like Harry, his family. His father out of prison, his mother and sister alive and his younger brother, all together.

I would say it has something to do with his sister, since guilt over her death tormented him for a long time.

I think it was his family together, you know, with Arianna back with them and stuff. He probably thinks it was his fault his sister died. It is, though.........sorta. Just partly, anyway.
