I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/... On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Everything about AVG is BULL! These are people who base there security on POPULARITY whereas the TRUE Safe people base them on RESULTS.
AVG has around a 90% Detection rate, with about 20% being False positives
AVira has around a 98-99% detection rate, with a MINIMAL of 10% being false positives!
The best among the TOP DETECTION is Avira AntiVir.
My Proof:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse_2007_05.php (In this test, AVG FAILS HORRIDLY!!)

ALL of these articles express Problems. Sadly, AVG even detected a FALSE POSITIVE in WORLD OF WARCRAFT. The MMORPG that over 10 Million people play!
Avira is definitely the way to go. Top line detection and protection.

yes, the very best is avg.
do not use stop sign. that gives you viruses. you have to be careful with free ones.
avg is the best free one, it really does help. it pops up when you get a virus and gives you options of how to deal with but it does prevent a lot. it pops up to let you block things as well.
It works better than norton or mcafee from my personal experience.
also spybot and adaware are great for spyware and bad cookies. those are free as well. you can't run searches on them both at the same time, but used seperatly are great.
avg works with both of these programs!

I personally think Avast! is pretty good, I've been using it for some time. I haven't used AVG but it's also up there.
