I am planning on getting the fisher price rainforest gym for my baby's tummy time but am not sure when you should purchase one. At birth or later? Also who has tried the gym?

Around three months is when babies can really enjoy them. I don't have the rainforest one, I have the Boppy one and my son LOVES it.

I had mine from birth, I think she started using it at 2 months. I think you should buy it now tho because shopping is easier without a newborn! I don't have that one but that whole set is VERY popular and a lot of ppl like it (I considered getting that set before I found out I was having a girl, the guy at Toys r Us says he sells tons of them everyday).

I had one before she was born, it had a little canopy with toys and lights she could look at while on her back, then once she got onto her tummy it was long before she was gone and getting into anything but the little toys.

You don't need it....
Just roll up a receiving blanket and put it under their armpits.
At first just lie the baby on it's tummy... let the neck muscles develop. After a month or two (depending on your baby's strength), do the rolled up towel.
Once they can lift their head and upper body, try putting a wall mirror or some toys in front of them to occupy their attention.

My baby learned to roll over tummy to back at 10 weeks... once she figured that out, she would never stay on her tummy.

As soon as possible. You can put a baby of any age on it. It will stimuate their most important senses.

They will probably be able to use it at about 3 months
