I started out with a take along for my first child. First, I never took it anywhere (that would have required at least one more arm than the two I currently have). Second, the arc of the swing wasn't long enough to soothe him. So after about a month I was lucky enough to get a full size swing passed to me from a friend and I never used the take along again. The only people I would recommend it to would be those who live somewhere where space is an issue.

I had a take along swing that I used as my only swing. I actually borrowed it from a friend and it was the best! It was not an inexpensive one and was very well constructed. I was able to pick it up and move it from room to room (did it once or twice with baby in it even though you aren't supposed to), and I folded it up and took it too my mom's when we visited her over a holiday. I think the big ones take up sooo much room for just the few months that they are used. You can get way more used out of a portable one, but don't skimp and buy the cheapest you can find.

Ours goes thru batteries like crazy. It has 5 settings but we have to keep it on 5 for it not to stop. Ours doesnt really work too good since Tyler passed 13 pounds. I wish I would have just got a full size one that you can plug in the wall. We don't really go anywhere we need the swing, we just had space issues so we got a take along one from Fisher Price.

i had a take along swing and loved it for the fact that if i went somewhere and i new that they was not gonna have a swing then i would bring mine it was not that hard to carry along and did not take up that much room.......my son liked it cuz of the lights and music and kept him entertained for hours at a time.... i no that sounds bad but you have to do what you have to do expecially when they will not stop crying and you have done everything that you can do and you put him in there and he stops almost as soon as he hits the seat i liked mine i am sure you will like your also.....ummm you might also look into a big swing for at home or for when they grow out of the take along one cuz when they start sitting up they can stop the swing from moving so that is when you will have to get a different swing but i still liked mine for both reasons but they will out grow it faster than they will a big swing but they still good to have....good luck

In my opinion NO!!!! I bought a take along swing and they are so much cheaper construction than a full sized one. Most full sized swings hold them until 30lbs or so, while take alongs are mostly 20lbs.
I would hold off on the take a long and just get a full sized one. With a new baby you spend most of your time at home!

Well sure it's more protable.... but not necessary. Your baby might not even like to be in a swing.
You pack too much stuff anyway... why would you wanto pack extra?
