Because it seemed like Lily liked Snape a little, and I hate Snape. I think Lily and James are the best couple ever, so it would annoy me is Lily liked Snape a little but married James. What do you think?

She liked him for a long time much more than James.
But than they went on opposite sides.
If he hadn't showed interest in Dark Magic, I am quite certain she would end with him. If he hadn't called her muddblood and if both of them were a bit less proud, she would pull him out of that Death Eater madness.

I do think Lily liked Snape a little bit. Snape, I find, is a very interesting character. He is someone you love to hate, but at the same time, after book seven, you discover that he has some redeeming qualities in him, which makes you think twice about his overall personality. If you ask me - we don't really know the "true Snape" we were just introduced to the persona he put on in public.

Whereas it's the opposite with James. You don't really hate him, because he was Harry's father, but there's a lot we do not know about him. What he do know about his past is that he was something of a bully - so if we knew more about him, would we still like James?

It would be awkward if Lily married Snape. And James seemed to be the ideal father for Harry - passing on his determination to his son.

Snape chosen the darkish Arts over Lily or maybe however James became a jerk to Snape, he did save his existence and wasn't as crammed with himself whilst he have been given older and became a relatively large guy so i admire James and Lily jointly(:

Yes, Lily liked Snape--as a friend, no more than that. She was concerned about the people he palled around with and eventually broke it off, when she realized that Snape really was just the same.

Even had she remained friends, I don't think there was any romantic feelings on her side.

lily liked snape. their relationship when they were young was a bit like ron and hermione, only that snape is more 'in love' at the moment with his deatheater pals. he would'nt deny them. so these love that lily have for snape turned to loathing after snape boldly declared that he shared deatheater views by calling her 'mudblood'.. i love snape and i love alan rickman. they're the best!

Snape messed it up by choosing the dark side as it were, it really was sad for Lilly because he adored her, but not enough to give up dark magic until he actually lost her through death. Completely heartbreaking.

Jaclyn: Did lily ever have feelings back for snape

J.K. Rowling: Yes. She might even have grown to love him romantically (she certainly loved him as a friend) if he had not loved Dark Magic so much, and been drawn to such loathesome people and acts.
