The study of rocks in general is petrology.
Lithology a subdivision of petrology focusing on macroscopic hand-sample or outcrop-scale description of rocks.
The detailed study of rocks by looking at the microscopic character is called petrography.

that is correct, although it is also called petrology. lithology focuses on the study of rocks and the conditions on which they form. the general study of rocks is geology though.
