Okay, so I'm 17. Can I legally date anybody over 18? What are the laws regarding this? Could he be arrested? If so, what for?

The issue isn't dating, it's sex. If the two of you have sex, in some jurisdictions he might be guilty of statutory rape. Check the local laws if you're concerned. But in most states, the age limit is considerably lower than 17. Moreover, in some states, there's an exception for couples where there is a small difference in age (e.g., 17 and 18).

You can date anyone you wish, regardless of his age. However, if a person age 18 or older has sex with someone under age 18, the adult is technically guilty of statutory rape.

Normally, if police do get involved for any reason, they will not file charges against an 18 year old who has sex with a 17 year old.

The state is important. Also the age difference, the precise activities you are engaged in (I assume you mean more than simply going out for dinner) and whether your parents approve.

Dating is one thing its what happens on those dates that could be illegal. However those laws are state specific and you failed to name yours. go to www.laborlawtalk.com and ask there but be sure to post your state.
