First and foremost I have worked in nursing homes and fortunately I have not seen this happen. I have viewed it on the news and whatnot. The first thing to do is have someone go with you and restrain the person, then call the police, administrator, and DON. Secondly, call the ambulance and doctor. Have the geriatric patient transferred to the hospital for observation and for goodness sakes, call the responsible party on their chart. Don't think that you would be able to go in there by yourself and get this person off the other. It is always wise for 2 people to be a witness versus one. I hope to never have to encounter this kind of abuse. It is a tragedy and should not go unnoticed. They need to make stricter laws for individuals that hurt older people.

I would definately handle the situation and get the person being harmed out of there, and then call the police and whomever is in control and running the facility. My parents as well will never be in a home like that or any assisted living while I'm still alive.

That is a tough one big time. Personally I would not contact the police at all I would stand up & deal with it myself due to the duty of being a human being. I would not play their sick game of bullying as I would lose. What I would do is get it clear with my own eyes of poor treatment. Once clear of this I would wait till the person are in a solitude space, I would fly in, like an assaisin, with no one else round & put the fear of God in them. Push them to the wall, clutching their neck pushing the arteries to leave no marks & say once only 'if you want to do that again (not mentioning what, they will know), then look over your shoulder every day as I will be there following!' Carry on strangling till they start to choke then walk out & if I did see it again I would act on my words. For the nxt few days I would just stare at them, follow them, really mess their head up, use sheer evil mind games 1 to 1, then stop as I would become the bully they are. This way I would never get caught & do my duty.

(Opps, don't tell the cops, as you can see I spent many yrs about thinking being a vigillantee.)

In your local phone book, under your county Health and Human Services, will be listed a hotline or contact number for both child and elder abuse. Make the call.

My great-grandfather went into an upscale home after a stroke. When he turned up with a mark on his arm, my great aunt installed a motion sensitive camera hidden in an artificial flower arrangement. The results were sickening and the employee was fired. The state investigated finding the abuse to be limited to one night duty nurse and a staff assistant (providing collaborating documentation to help cover incidents of abuse). His daughter moved him immediately to a facility that allowed a private duty nurse to make unscheduled visits.

We would have preferred him to live with us, but the legal decision was with his daughter.

Remember: It's never too late to get involved. County abuse lines also allow anonymous reporting.

My grandma works at an oldpersons home ( ironic aye?) but they never beat the old people. It really isn't common. But If i saw someone doing that to an old person, I would try to knock them out if I was close enough, and then phone the police.

After I was through with them... Well, I wouldn't want to strain the old person by cleaning up the blood, so I would have ALOT of cleaning to do...
