What would be an interesting topic to write about for a persuasive essay? Like what would you want to persuade someone to do?

debate on whether you want school uniforms...

personally I would say...
Our school should not have to wear uniforms because children need to be able to dress in their own unique way. If we had uniforms, then we would have to wash them everyday and that would waste a lot of water, which would waste a lot of money...

something like that =]

Write about something that you're interested in. Even if you think your best topic is something that know one else cares about, write about it anyway. The whole point of the essay is to persuade, so persuade your audience(probably your teacher) into caring about what you do.

Topics that interest you may be your hobbies, friends, viewpoints on life, etc. Also, whatever you do, make sure it's a unique topic. You'll probably get a better grade if your essay isn't like the other fifty on smoking and its relation to health problems.

The way to get the best grade is to choose a topic on which you actually agree. Think of something you like, or a candidate you feel should be elected. It can be as simple as a music group you like. You can persuade someone that Brad Pitt is the best actor (or not a good actor) or your side on an issue (drugs are good, bad, should be legalized). What usually improves a persuasive essay would be choosing something that you agree with, that many oppose because it makes it more controversial and interesting, as opposed to saying something on which most already agree.

I don't know if your essay has guidelines or not, but I was a philosophy major in college and I am in law school, so I have had to write many many persuasive essays. The format I find to be the best (as long as there is no guideline) is something roughly like this:

Make a statement that explains what you are trying to prove or persuade

State your points you want make to back it up (3 strong points are always good):
Each point is a paragraph or section. Start by stating the point. The body explains the point and supports it with examples. Then conclude with a statement that ties the point (starting sentence) with the reasons and evidence. To cover bases even more, you can offer an argument against the point (what someone who disagrees with you might say) and then resolve it by showing that your evidence is stronger.

Finally conclude with a paragraph. Restate your main argument (topic of persuasive argument) Sum up your points, and why they prevail over opposition's arguments. Finally make the last sentence an affirmative statement that what you are trying to say from the beginning.

This is how law is argued. Your teacher may not want, or require the argument against, and in that case, just exclude everything I said about the arguments against.

He is a really simple outline, you can use this idea if you want

----------------------------------------

1. Intro:

Capitalism is superior to communism.

3 reasons: The greatest good for a society as a whole economically is capitalism, morally, capitalism is more fair to humanity, and in practice over history, capitalism has proven to be more successful than communism.

For these reasons, Capitalism is superior to communism.

2. Reasons supporting thesis:

A. Best for the society argument: Allowing private industry maximizes the productivity of a nation because it gives people n financial incentive to work harder and longer. In a communist society, where industry is controlled by the government, and wealth is distributed equally, people will only work hard enough to get by, because there are not enough people who will work their hardest out of virtue, and no incentive. Example: two fisherman; 1 spends 10 hours a day on the water and studies to be a better fisherman. He catches 50 fish in the day. 2 spends 3 hours sleeping on the water, 2 hours breaking for lunch, and catches 10 fish. They each get 30 fish. Productive guy loses, and the lazy guy wins. This will not inspire the productive guy to continue, or for the lazy guy to get better, thus productive guy gives up the the entire productivity of group lowers to a minimum standard, each catching 10 fish. Society that was producing 60 fish total is not only producing 20.

B. Morality argument: Humans should have the right to pursue their own goals and acquire wealth proportional to their effort and success. The Government has no right to take this freedom away. Morally, people should have to most freedom they can be given, as long as their freedom does not directly take away other peoples freedom. If this is taken away, to where could the line slip. Example: Does this seem fair: Two roommates work at the same restaurant. One works 40 hours a week, and is very friendly, and earns $3000 a month. The other sleeps in, and works a few hours, 3 days a week, and earns $1000 a month. What if the government forced the first roommate to pay 75% of the rent. Such an interference by government offends the conscious. The best route to avoid problems is to give people maximum freedom thus guaranteeing them equal opportunity, but not promising equal outcome.

C. Practical argument: In practice, capitalistic societies have a higher standard of life. The United States is considered one of the greatest places to live. Its the wealthiest. During the communist regime in Russia, people could barely eat. Capitalism, in practice, creates a better standard of living for a society as show throughout history.

3. Summary:

Capitalism is superior to communism because ...

Sum up 3 points, using your evidence as opposed to the intro where you just stated the points.

Therefore (restate in some way): Capitalism is superior to communism.

------------------------------

I didn't include arguments against because I am not sure if you are even supposed to do that, or if you have the time or the length of the essay to do so. If you want some arguments against:

Greatest Good: In the above argument, greatest good of society is assumed to be a financial/production standard. Money doesn't dictate the greatest good. Maybe a communist society doesn't produce as much, but could be better off in other ways

Morality: Although above example may be "unfair," there are situations in a caplitalistic society that are unfair as well. A person may be born with less intelligence, strength or ability as someone else. In capitalism, this person would have a lower standard of life because of bad luck (involuntary attributes as opposed to laziness). Why should he have a worse life just because of factors that were out of his control. He may work twice as hard as another, but just not be as good, and yet the less productive one wins out.

Practical argument: Although the quality of life in communist Russia was inferior, this argument assumes that this society executed a perfect communist model. There were factors in Russia that were not consequences of model communism, but other unfavorable factors, that led to these problems.

You can use and resolve these arguments if you want. I'm to busy to write any more.

Hope it helped.

If it is a persuasive essay then you should persuade your readers that most americans should NOT use credit cards. You should base your argument on facts. You should also find arguments that people may have for why people SHOULD have credit and provide counter-arguments. So find common reasons why people think you should have credit cards and argue those reasons.
