they can not in an official manner notify anyone else since there is no legal record or proof of what they would be saying.
un-officially people talk and people in the same line of business or in the case of a chain store know others who work in the same stores probably pass on information as a courtesy to each other. it is possible someone at another grocery store will know about the incident but they won't know your daughter or have a picture posted in the office with most wanted written under it.
EDIT:
if they had pressed charges and there was a record they then could pass that information on but probably would not waste their time with it.

Usually they tell the person not to come into the store again. But never throw them out if they do come back in.
My cousin was caught shoplifting from the same grocery store 3 times in 8 months and they let her go with a warning all three times.

A 22 year old woman stole $30 from a grocery store and got away with it and you say she is being reprimanded. She is an adult and this is theft. Thieves are not reprimanded. Just because she got away doesn't make her in the free. Just because the loss prevention person didn't say, Stop thief! Empty your bag! doesn't limit her responsibility. With her license plate number, the police can search license bureau records and find out whose plate this is. What would happen next would be up to the store and the police, I guess. I don't think reprimand is the word to use in this case. What do they do to the homeowner who receives stolen goods?

Lots of little kids shoplift. How old is she?
Did you take her in to apologize? Was she scared?
I shopliften when I was too young to really understand what I was doing wrong. My mom made me go up and give it back and apologize. I was so scared after that, I never bothered shoplifting again. Make sure you tell her that she could have gone to jail and she probably will if she ever does it again.
I doubt they will bother calling any other stores. This probably happens a lot more than you'd think.

Why don't you go to the store and talk to the manager in person. Apologize for your family, and ask him about the ramifications with other local businesses. Personally, I would doubt that anything like what you are worried about will happen, but if you're up front, and make an effort to fix the problem, not let it get worse, the manager will make more of an effort to work with you. Good luck.

I think depending on how small your town is you shouldn't have a problem. Law enforcement has better things to do I would think then taking the time to alert each store of a first time shoplifter.

No one is going to notify other grocery stores. I think you should punish your daughter for her wrong doing. Getting a slap on the wrist sends the wrong message. She may be more willing to try it again.

It is not very likely however some retailers input shoplifters name into a database shared with other retailers

No they won't notify others, but you really should do something about it and not let her get away with a slap on the wrist!

They are free to do so if they choose. Would it be wrong to be suspicious of somebody who has already demonstrated that they are willing to break the law?
