I have the audio book Blood and Smoke, and 1408 is on it. It was subtle and creepy...I thought that the movie was just plain absurd. The story was crap, the acting was sub par and being familiar with the original cast, I thought it was incredibly miscast.

Yeah I actually just watched the movie 1408 Monday night. Was really looking forward to it, but was not at all impressed. I like John Cusack, so I hate to say that this movie disappointed me, but it did.

The story is better than the movie because it is a short story which is only the length it needs to be. For the movie they had to pad it out with unnecessary materials to get the right movie length.

Having said that I wouldn't call the acting in the 1408 movie sub par because John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are excellent actors. The movie isn't that bad, I'd give it a 3 stars rating (where the short story would get 5 stars)

Strangely enough it was "OK" to me. Not the best movie I've ever seen, not the best adaptation certainly but not the worse. I was kind of half hearted about the story anyhow but I really like John Cuzak (Grosse Point Blank is my favorite movie along with In the Mouth of Madness).
I won't run out and buy the DVD certainly, and I thought the "TV Static" people was a bit annoying.
I want to see MIST! But probably won't get the chance before it leaves theaters.

My favorite movie of his isn't an adaptation but one he wrote himself. Storm of the Century. I recommend it if you haven't seen it. Captures a King story wonderfully.

I agree. The movie disappointed me because I had read the short story prior to that. Had I not read the story, I think I would have enjoyed the movie. I didn't like the addition of the daughter at all, and I think it would have been much creepier (and by extent better) had they kept it along the same lines of the story.

I think that writers in the same genre as Stephen King have to be at least a little sick to come up with some of the things they write.

I loved it. I love all Stephen Kings stories. It's not cliched and it's not your typical blood and gore torture festival. It's more subtle and paranormal which is great.

haven't seen it yet but why is it that stephen kings books, which are great don't transfer well into movies...with just the exception of 3.shawshank,green mile and running man?
