I just spent two different days in the last 3 months at a sleep center trying to find just the same thing out.
According to my Dr. it is sleep apnea. If you think you are a light sleeper because you wake up - you probably aren't as light sleeping doesn't exist due to the stages of REM.
Our bodies tend to stop breathing as we sleep and our brains have a natural alarm that wakes us up when oxygen starts becoming scare to the brain. Thus you get headaches, sometimes dry mouth and throat and sometimes nausea when you wake up.
There are many ways to help sleep apnea but there are no known cures other than surgery which can be evasive. You can try the Breath Right Nose Strips, a stop snoring nasal spray, chin straps OR in my case see a qalified Dr. and get a sleep study done. IF you are a candidate, you can be fitted for a CPAP machine that blows humidified air down your wind pipes so you breath and sleep better....last resort is surgery.
I noticed my symptoms 12 months after getting my wisdom teeth pulled. I started keeping a journal of my symptoms, when I would wake up, what I would do etc. I didn't wake up every night and stay awake in the beginning as it was only about 2 times a week the first year...then over the last 3 years it has progressed into almost every night and sleep deprevation is getting to me to the point I am a zombie at work and home.
Right now, you can try laying off caffiene, and/or take Valerian root which is a natural sleep aid to help you get to sleep. Just take it about 1-2 hours before bedtime. You won't wake groggy either. OR my brother swears by 5-HTP which he takes and a friend of his gives to his 14 year old son for his son's sleep apnea with great results.
If none of these things help then see your doctor and discuss getting a sleep study done. Nothing is more dangerous than a driver with deprived sleep on the road...I know...there are many times I remember leaving work but do not remember any stop lights, signs or anything else when I pulled into the drive way.

Early awakening from sleep is a common problem as you get older. It can also be a symptom of depression or a sleep disorder. The headaches might be the result of insufficient sleep, but do need to be checked out. I suggest that you consult with your doctor about this problem. He may prescribe an antidepressant or a sedative and/or refer you to a sleep clinic. If the headaches are intense, other tests like chemistries and an MRI might be ordered, too.

Like the other guy said, you should go to the doctors. If you snore a lot and wake up you may have sleep acnea (yes I know the spelling is bad). Or it could be stress, so do what they do in the movies: tell off your boss and quit, go out to lunch with your friends, get a manicure/pedicure, etc. lol. But all kidding aside, go to a doctor first, if he perscribes a sleep medicine take it. If there's nothing wrong, just try to relieve your stress, eat right, daily excersise and if none of that works GET A NEW MATRESS

Go and buy nytol or some other drug store brand. Pharmasist will advise.. Take them early so you do not over sleep. about an hour before you want to sleep. You are getting drousy in 30 min. In 15 min go and get ready for bed.
If this helps you go thru 8 hours of sleep do this for 3 days. And then get ready....... You and restructured they way your brain thinks you should sleep...Don't stay on the pills. Just set them aside until this happens again. It useually happens because we threw our ownn schedule off. Isn't our mind amazing that it can even count hours.. If you go to bed at 10..00pm. count the hours before you have to get up. 11.12.1,2,3,4,5, 6. That should be good. best wishes

Insomnia is usually caused by mental or emotional issues. You should think about anything that may be bothering you or occupying your mental energy and figure out how to resolve it. Exercise is good too. Play a sport or something that will make you physically exhausted and you'll sleep like a baby.

Call your doctor and ask him about it. You probably don't want to spend money on a checkup unless you're sure you need it.
No advice from the internet can replace what a doctor has to say, go see one.

Well, I use a natural supplement called, Melatonin which knocks me completely out. You can find it in the vitamin aisle. Go for the 5mg one. I swear, it works better than any prescription one. I've tried them all.
