She's a heavier girl and im a twig. She figures I wouldnt be physically able to handle swing dancing with her because I'm really quite weak. So, I'm wondering how intensive swing dancing actually is when you're doing it.

Also, what are some other fun dances you might suggest for us?

In swing dancing, as in all other kind of social dancing, both of you are supposed to be standing on your own feet and managing your own weight. All steps except for aerials are danced under your own steam. You're not allowed to do lifts on a social floor anyway because it poses dancer to other dancers, but if you really want to learn some of them you still can. You just won't have a luxury of muscling them when you're not doing them correctly.

Other fun dances are salsa wich is very popular and all other ballroom dances like Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Cha-Cha, Rumba.

Lifts are about leverage more than strength, but it doesn't matter anyway because lifts are not a part of social swing. I know it looks cool in the movies and such, but in the real world, the lifts, or "air steps," are a hazard to other dancers and should only be danced in show pieces. Even in the earliest days with Whitey's Lindy Hoppers at the Savoy, the area for that sort of thing was roped off from the rest of the dance floor.

It takes no physical strength to dance with her...if you are doing it right, and you don't do the "flash and trash" of the lifts and tricks, which are not really the dancing anyway.
First, each person moves their own body. They should never rely on the other to stop them in the rock steps!!! The rock step is actually a stop and reverse direction movement- going from moving back to going forward. That is each persons own doing.
Further, if a person is stopped from going back on a rock step by the other person, it becomes jerky, and can actually hurt someones shoulder. God forbid one person already had a shoulder injury in the past...
Rock step with your arms still in a bent position!
When I lead a girl, I EXPECT her to move on her own, and I just LEAD her where to go. I don't want to carry her, drag her, or use effort...how can we dance fast and light if I have to expend energy to get her to MOVE?

You can still learn some swing dancing moves without the aerials. So, don't give up on that before you start. I can't imagine a funner dance than swing.
