"Nick C"......Bird said that regarding ONE GAME, in which Jordan scored 63 points in a double overtime LOSS to the Celtics.
The following game, in Chicago, Jordan was held to 19 points (only 5 pts in the final 3 quarters). So much for Bird's comment.
"Toys R Us"....we're supposed to believe ESPN???......lol
Jordan wasn't even the greatest GUARD in history, let alone the greatest player!
Jordan is a lucky guy in that he played during the era of 24 hour sports highlights and cable TV. Wilt, Russell, Baylor, Robertson never had that luxury.
No player in the history of sports was as over-hyped as Jordan was.

Jordan is one of the greatest NBA players and Phil is also one of the greatest coaches in the NBA.
Before Phil Jackson came, Jordan and Chicago was Detroit's whipping boys. On Jackson's second year as coach, he lead them to the NBA Finals.
When Jordan retired during the 1993-94 season, Chicago lost only two regular seasongames from the year before (from 57 wins to 55 wins). Led by Pippen and Phil, the Jordan-less Bulls went to the Second Round of the Playoffs and was on its way to the eastern Conference Finals when a flat-out stupid call from the ref gave the win to the Knicks.
During the 1994-95 season the Bulls lost the services of its lone effective power forward Horace Grant and the Bulls soft interior was exposed (to be rectified by Rodman in 95-96). The team languished even with Jordan returning for the final 18(?) games. The team went to the Playoffs but was eliminated by Shaq, Grant, and the Magics by pounding the Bulls from the inside.

This isn't a very smart question its obviously going to piss alot of people off. But for some of the people asking don't anything away from Phil Jackson he's still an amazing coach, Ask Michael Jordan personally about his Championship's and there's not doubt in my mind he would tell you Phil had a large part in them. As for Now, Michael is the greatess, However i believe Kobe has what it takes to be the greatess. Give Kobe six championship rings and i rank Kobe over Jordan, but until then Michael stand up top.

Maybe you should take a minute and think about that....have you ever seen the guy play? Did you ever watch the games as they happened? Are you even a basketball fan?!?
Saying MJ got the benefit of being on a team with a all time great coach is like saying that Tiger's only great because of his caddy! They have to perform and make it happen!
Phil is awesome and I loved watching him in Chicago and LA. No dought he'd be great and make a very good team anywhere he went...but giving him all the credit for the championships is a little much dude.
What happened in 1994 and 1995 without MJ? It's a team effort and he was the center-piece. A great player, with a great coach, on a great "team".

to ask this question would be like asking:
God?
Give me give a convincing argument why I should even begin to consider God as one of the best ever. To me right now he's just a lucky guy who mooched bible sales off of great human beings.
you asking this question means you don't know anything about basketball.
Honors: Six-time NBA champion (1991-93, 1996-98); NBA MVP (1988, '91, '92, '96, '98); 10-time All-NBA First Team (1987-93, 1996-98); All-NBA Second Team (1985); Defensive Player of the Year (1988); Nine-time All-Defensive First Team (1988-93, 1996-98); Rookie of the Year (1985); 14-time All-Star; All-Star MVP (1988, '96, '98); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996); Two-time Olympic gold medalist (1984, '92).
He also scored 32,292 points in his career to phil jackson's 0pts as a coach... oh and one more thing... when jordan retired from the bulls how many championships did phil jackson win? huh? what was that...? yeah thats right: 0.
this is a coming from a guy who favorite player isn't even jordan... but you gotta know yer sh!t man!
*to metal maniac specifically:
okay blame larry bird who said that the new star in Chicago was "God disguised as Michael Jordan." again you don't know basketball and no i don't think you're stupid... thats why i said the god comparison. it was a tip of the hat to larry bird commenting on michael jordan. he was considered a basketball god... its not some religious comparison of god and man. get a sense of humor dude.

MJ mooched his rings? Phil hasn't won a ring without having the best player in the NBA (at the time) with another player in the top 50 of all time playing along side him. How is Phil's team right now?

Mike is the best. 6 NBA championships with a team that was mediocre until he was drafted. He made people around him better. He was unselfish and shared the ball. Phil Jackson is a coach who mooched 6 rings off of Jordan. How much success has he had lately?

Look at the Bull's roster for instance. Who, on that team, did anything without Michael? Luke Longley, Will Perdue? Name one player who did anything apart from Jordan. Please don't say Steve Kerr who played on the Spurs. He was one of the few players I saw who could get the most out of anyone. Luke Longley was a pretty good player with Jordan. Without, he was a nobody. Same could be said for Scottie Pippen. I give Phil a lot of credit but on the floor, Jordan led and inspired that team. I've never seen anyone do more with less.

Jordan scored a playoff record 63 points against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Celtics star Larry Bird described him as "God disguised as Michael Jordan.
Jordan's total of 5,987 points in the playoffs is the highest in NBA history.
He retired with 32,292 points placing him third on the NBA's all-time scoring list behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone.
In 1988, he was honored with the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year Award and became the first NBA player to win both the Defensive Player of the Year and MVP awards in a career
He set records for blocked shots by a guard, and combined this with his ball-thieving ability to become a standout defensive player. His 2,514 steals are the second of all-time behind John Stockton and had 3 steal titles in his career.
ESPN ranked him as the best athlete of the 20th century
Does that answer your question?

I think he is the greatest player of all time, and i think the six rings say it all. I think winning is what decides a great player. Another player i might consider is Bill Russell with all the championships he won with the Celtics. Who do you think the best player ever is?
