You can...... some say not to eat it cause it has caffine in it.
You should limit the amount of caffeine you have each day, but you don't need to cut it out completely. Caffeine occurs naturally in a range of foods, such as coffee, tea and chocolate, and it's also added to some soft drinks and 'energy' drinks.
It's important not to have more than 300mg a day. This is because high levels of caffeine can result in babies having a low birth weight, or even miscarriage.
Each of these contains roughly 300mg of caffeine:
3 mugs of instant coffee (100mg each)
4 cups of instant coffee (75mg each)
3 cups of brewed coffee (100mg each)
6 cups of tea (50mg each)
8 cans of cola (up to 40mg each)
4 cans of 'energy' drink (up to 80mg each)
8 (50g) bars of plain chocolate (up to 50mg each). Caffeine in milk chocolate is about half that of plain chocolate
So if you eat a bar of plain chocolate and drink 3 cups of tea, a can of cola and a cup of instant coffee in a day, you'll have reached your 300mg limit.

Did you offend her in some way?! or maybe she was just having a bad day.
There's a minimal amount of caffeine in chocolate along with a lot of other stuff, including a chemical that's poison to dogs, but don't give it up, I think she's made a mistake.
Chocolate was the only thing I actually "went off"
with my third pregnancy. My sister-in-law had come to stay and had brought me some Minstrels! I was only a few weeks' pregnant at the time and I found I couldn't face them for the next 7months!

I have never avoided chocolate and I am on my 3rd pregnancy. I am with you, that must be a new thing. Until my doctor tells me otherwise I am going to enjoy it. Actually, when I was pregnant with my first who is now 3, studies came out saying mothers who eat chocolate while pregnant gave birth to smiley babies. Who knows what will come of the next study. Things change every day these days.

Ive never heard of that. I survived on chocolate while I was pregnant. I'd get a new doctor. Honestly, that sounds like a quack.
Theres a TINY bit of caffeine in chocolate, but you'd have to eat it for three meals a day to get the same as a cup of coffee....

Sounds like someone was taking the info on cafeine to the extreme...Also you'd be surprised how many nurses ESP, and other med professionals tell patients old wives tales! Just ignore the advice, choco doesn't have that much caffeine in it, more dark= more caffeine tho. You'd have to eat like 3 dark bars to equal one cuppa reg joe.

Your NP needs to speak with an RD. This is silly. Eat chocolate...it's fine. I am a nutritionist / RD, and my biggest per peeve is when medical professionals tell patients this old-wives tale junk. There's no scientific evidence that eating chocolate will harm your baby...unless it's in a martini!

I have never been told that, I am 29 weeks and this is my third, the doctor has never told me no chocolate. Maybe they just tell you that to prevent a huge weight gain.
