You want a book, not an answer. One element that seems to have influenced our culture is his welfare program. Until Johnson, Negroes had a history of being family oriented. They may have suffered a great deal of discrimination, but they maintained strong family values. Johnson's welfare system discouraged fatherhood and rewarded multiple-children in a fatherless relationship. More children, more money - as long as there was no father. That destroyed ***** culture.

Total failure. The poverty rate is unchanged, and if anything the poor are much worse off with drugs and violence.

The goal was to eradicate poverty, discrimination and promote civil rights. All he did was expand the size of government, and today we have these enormous government programs and the exact same poverty rate.

Civil Rights Act was a success to a degree. There will always be the idiots, but I think most people are fundamentally good, and treat everyone as an equal whether the government passes a law or not. We all encounter people we respect every day, and it's the individual who earns that respect.

He is credited with launching the welfare state that saw generations of famlies living off a government check. It has had a profound effect on crime and those that think the government owes them something. LBJ ranks up there with the worst of our presidents.
