Whenever I'm expecting something via FedEx or UPS or USPS, I'm always one of the very last deliveries of the driver's day. Doesn't matter whether it's during the holidays or any other time of year, the online tracking will list the package as "on the truck for delivery" but it doesn't arrive until after dark. Oh, and I live in normal neighborhoods, close to downtown and with the house number clearly visible from the street -- it's not like I live out in the boonies with no lights or street signs.

Why do you think this is? Is there some secret database that has me on some insidious "To Be Inconvenienced" list? I've never made trouble for these organizations or otherwise been some sort of problem child, and I thought I'd worked off all my bad karma from my drinking days. Very odd.

Do you ever have chronic delays like this?

Pippi, I am going through similar issues as you are. I live in a huge apartment complex and yesterday FedEx just left an expensive package by the door, no knocking or anything! I only discovered it when I was putting my trash out for the night. I actually now had to call them and I have to, get this, put a NOTE on my door telling them to knock. GRRRRR! I've had other friends that haven't gotten their orders yet, and one of my friends just said the mailman didn't even pick up his mail, just drove past!

I don't put up with it. I tell them up front that I have one day to take care of it, and wait to hear the promises they make about not being late. If it sounds insincere, I do not hire them.. I give them a reasonable amount of time to arrive, and if they don't. I call. I work nights, and I always work that into the conversation. and I always ask what they will do if another job takes longer than expected. the furnace repair company tells me up front how many people are ahead of me that day, assure me that the first repair man available will be out, and they call me when he is finishing his last job, and I ask for a time estimate on when will he be at my house.. What I want is a where in town are they right now, so I can estimate the drive-time between jobs, and they always tell me. I think sometimes that we are not told that it is going to be awhile before someone arrives, because they think we will take our business elsewhere if we have to wait. I think the opposit, I would rather know, so I can make plans, or get some sleep while I wait.

Trust me... you are NOT alone! I am also on the "tail end" of the UPS's delivery route. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, if there's a UPS delivery, invariably it's delivered 5:30pm or later!

FedEx, however, comes at any time of day. I've gotten deliveries from them at different times.

But the UPS truck is like clock-work! 5:30!

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Sorry to tell you this but it's a conspiracy. I live across the street from the post office and my mail is always late.
