I saw it about 6:30 pm in southern Georgia, in the middle of the sky, directly overhead.

It had a definite tail, pointed on one end and grew into the cloud that spread out, about as big as a dime. It blinked/faded in and out, and was not moving. Definitely seemed not to be a meteor, because it was NOT moving!

Not a supernova, for sure. That would simply look like a normal star which would brighten over weeks and then fade away over weeks.

If it had a tail, it wasn't a supernova. Besides, a supernova wouldn't brighten/fade that fast.

Wow. Meteors appear to move really fast unless they're coming right down toward you. I don't know what that was but I've seen some interesting things myself! There's a comet visible to the naked eye, not sure if it's visible in N. America right now though.
