How much does your version of "success" cost?
After all, we're in it for about $500,000,000,000 now (and counting) and the only "success" was the hanging of Saddam Hussein.
That is a lot of taxpayer money spent just to hang someone.

If success means killing as many terrorists as possible, Bush should have suspended the no-fly zone so Saddam could kill the thousands of PKK terrorists and Anwar-al-Islam radicals that it was protecting. It is unlikely that the invasion killed more terrorists than it created. At least the military doesn't believe it. Even Rumsfeld suspected that the US created more terrorists than it killed.
Now, if the question is limited to terrorists that are willing to attach the US homeland, then it makes even less sense. There were virtually none in Iraq at the time the US attacked. They were in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But now? Oy.
So, to "succeed" in Iraq is not possible by your criteria, at least not according to the experts. The question is only what strategy will do the least harm. The US military needs to withdraw at least some forces, or it will self-destruct.
Now, of course the Republicans are willing to damage the US military in order to make the point that they're willing to go to any length to look tough on terrorism - even if it doesn't help. Doesn't that make them irresponsible? Perhaps traiterous? Why not focus on Afghanistan and Pakistan. You remember, where Al-Qaeda is based? Where Osama still runs around? In case you missed it, Pakistan has nukes and nuclear reactors. And it does not like the US much, especially since the US supports the military dictatorship.

Poor deluded schmucks!! This is what your success looks like:
After ethnic cleansing of formerly mixed neighborhoods is complete... A relative calm descends o'er the land. Soon the people begin to realize that we, EXXON-Mobil, Conoco-Phillips, BP et al are raping them dry and they then NATIONALIZE their OIL industry just like everyone else has, i.e, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Venezuela and IRAN.....
All that blood and treasure expended for what? a few years of looting the Iraqi OIL fields!!!!!

They want us to fail. That is obvious. Harry Reid has already declared the Iraq situation to be a complete failure. How pathetic! The Democrats will pay a severe price at the polls next year for their treason and disregard for our brave young men and women fighting for our country. They are truly despicable.

The Democrats are committed to defeat in Iraq. They feel this defeat will give them a win in the coming election. And believe me, they are drooling all over themselves. Theirs, in order of importance is: 1. self, 2. party, 3. country.
