Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, God the Son.
The angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
(Luke 2:10-14)
With love in Christ.

Luk 2:8 In the same region there were {some} shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luk 2:9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
Luk 2:10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Luk 2:11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luk 2:12 "This {will be} a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Luk 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Luk 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
Luk 2:15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds {began} saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us."
Luk 2:16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
Luk 2:17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
Luk 2:18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
Luk 2:19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Luk 2:20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Christmas is a time when we celebrate the coming of the Lord. The other part of Christmas when we give presents is a tradition when Saint Christopher gave gifts to the poor. That's where we get Santa Clause.

Christmas is not technically in the bible.
The word itself is derived from two words: Christ-Mass. It was the Mass that was celebrated on the feast of the birth of Christ -- although no one knows when he was really born.
The story of events surrounding Jesus' birth are in the Bible, found in the first couple of chapters in the books of Matthew and Luke. If you want to read them online, here is the link.

If the default translation is hard to understand, scroll down to "THE MESSAGE" It is very easy to read and in modern language.
I hope this helps, and I hope you have a blessed Christmas - filled with renewed understanding of what this day means.
It all comes down to this: God is with us!
