Anytime is a good time. First, evaluate your engine for the formation of sludge. This is pretty easy, just remove your oil filler cap. Flip it over and look at it carefully. Is it coated with brown or flaky little particles or gooey?? If so, then the whole inside of your engine will look the same!! Also, look down inside the engine and see how much varnish has formed on things. If there are no deposits, then feel free to change over with confidence!! If there are deposits, then de-sludge the engine first. How do you do this? Find a Mercury boat store and buy a can of "Power Tune". It costs about $7-9 Spray the contents directly into the engine, then drive the car gently for two days. Then drain the old oil out, (it will be black and tarry). This will have removed most of the deposits conventional oil has left behind. Change the oil to Mobil One and drive for 3 months, then change it again. By this time, nearly all the sludge will be removed and the crankcase will be about as clean as you can get it without doing an overhaul. The second oil change will last a lot longer and should last for about a year or longer, depending on the kind of driving that you do. Also, remember to clean, clean, clean your crankcase ventilation system (PCV) to remove caked on vapors. Good Luck!!!

I don't think there is a "set" limit on mileage , as it also depends on how well the engine was taken care of before the switch....because if you have an engine that leaks or burns oil....using Synthetic only worsens the problem
