I saw a special on discovery channel about it. It is fossilized, not mummified. The skin is intact, but completely replaced by minerals, with zero proteins found. If it was mummified, they would have been able to extract proteins from the mummified skin. They are still checking samples to see if they can get proteins though, since they are hoping to get some intact dino DNA.

My bf and I thought it was totallty cool.

They did say they were able to identify the pigment somehow. Scientists originally thought the animal was a matte brown or tan color. Now they know he was brightly colored (probably red or orange tinge) and striped.

It's actually a cross between fossilized dinosaur skin and a mummified skin...neat huh?
