Check out some of these stories. This one's pretty bizarre:
An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (he claimed that he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) -- then asked the state to pay because he has no income in jail. He said, "I want to pay myself $5 million dollars, but ask the state to pay it on my behalf since I can't work and am a ward of the state." The judge was not impressed by his ingenuity, and dismissed the suit as frivolous.

In common law, any citizen can sue any other for anything, so some truly bizarre cases are filed from time to time. They generally don't get to trial though.
One of my favorites was the surfer in Southern Ca who sued another for cutting him off on a wave, spoiling his perfect ride and depriving him of his right to the "pursuit of happiness".
Dismissed before trial, of course.

Not suing. But the craziest thing I ever heard of was in East Tennessee hanging an Elephant for murder from a railroad car and crane. The poor beast apparently got paniced somehow in a circus parade. Trampled his trainer to death. The good folk of the town tried him for murder. and hung him with chains from a flat bed railroad car with a repair crane. Must have been both quiet a stink and pile when he voided!

Yesterday on Judge Mathis there was uncle suing his nephew because the former gives the latter a dollar for each year he was alive. Well this year he gave 1 extra dollar and he was suing to get it back. Man anything gets on tv.

The strangest thing I've heard was a senator in the U. S. suing God to stop natural disasters, famine, war and disease.
Stranger yet, according to court records God responded to the suit.
