My daughter has just asked me if I know what 'size zero' means. I don't. Is it an American measurement for the very thin, or can you buy clothes in UK in size zero?

Size 0 = Size 4 in the UK

Size zero means very small. It is not an uncommon size for petite women in the US. I would have to disagree with the other people who say it is too small or unhealthy. I am a very petite woman. I wear a US size 2, which is just one size above a zero. I'm very healthy, very curvy, and do not have bones sticking out.

I don't know what the UK equivalent of a size zero would be, but when I was in the UK last year, I had a terrible time finding anything that would fit. I did find a place that sold sizes 4 and 6, and the 6 was about right for me. The hips were a little too tight, but the waist fit perfectly.

For the record, though, I would not recommend anyone try to be a size zero. It is much better to eat a healthy diet, exercise in moderation, and be the size that is appropriate for your frame.

If your daughter is asking just because it seems weird for a size to be zero, then tell her it's just plain old American vanity that made manufacturers come out with such a ridiculous sizing chart. If she's asking because she want to be that size, tell her she's absolutely beautiful the way she is and size isn't what determines beauty.

size zero and double zero are used in american clothing, not sure about UK, but probably there too. It means very tiny/small. Usually waist measuring like 24, hips around 34 and bust around 33. For reference, the average american woman who is a 12 - 14 is more like waist 33, hips 41, and bust 38.

People like the Olson twins, Nicole Ritchie, etc. are zeros.

It can be healthy, but also not. My sister in law is very healthy, super tiny, exercises a lot and has fast metabolism, but is nice and curvy size 0.

well size 0 is an American size but over in the UK its size 4 and most places sell that size now and its about the same size as what Victoria beckham is. My honest opinion is that the size should be removed from the shops and people are wanting to fit in o it and then will end up ill.

Size zero means almost no body fat at all, so yes it is very thin.

In U.K. it measures to be a size 4, but U.K. stores will normally only sell clothes from a size 8 up, and even that is thought of to be thin

size 0 is a size 4 in UK shops. there are not many shops that stock with clothezs that are a size for. many start from a size 8, but some will stock in a size 6. i find it hard 2 get clothes that fit right, as not many shops stock in the right sizes

I think a size zero is a UK size 4... and then there are double-zeroes in the US as well...

Size zero in USA is size 4 in UK. Dangerously, unhealthily thin. I have never seen any size 4's in UK shops.
